Domestic and Sexual Violence Can Happen to Anyone, Anywhere, at Anytime

Lena had been my best friend since I could remember. We even made sure we went to the same college and roomed together. Like so many other young people, she met the "man of her dreams" in our freshman year and married soon after graduation. Sadly, shortly after they married, we became estranged. She would call me with tales of how right after their honeymoon, Jake became increasingly abusive, and the last time we talked she had been taken to the ER. I now remember the countless times I said to her, "Why don't you just leave?! You are smart, have a good job, and used to be independent! I would NEVER let this happen to me!"
